Quercitrin is a common antioxidant flavonoid found in vegetables. Quercitrin exhibits a scavenger and antioxidant role, and these effects probably are mediated via different mechanisms, which may involve the negative modulation of the Fenton reaction and NMDA receptor.

Previous in vitro experiments have shown that quercetin exerts a bigger effect than quercitrin in the down-regulation of the inflammatory response. Quercetin inhibits cytokine and inducible nitric oxide synthase expression through inhibition of the NF-kappaB pathway without modification of c-Jun N-terminal kinase activity (both in vitro and in vivo). Quercitrin releases quercetin in order to perform its anti-inflammatory effect which is mediated through the inhibition of the NF-kappaB pathway.

Quercitrin, shows antidiarrhoeic activity at doses of 50 mg kg−1, against castor oil- and PGE2-induced diarrhoea in mice, but not when magnesium sulphate is used as a cathartic agent.
