| Applications | Celastrol is a triterpenoid antioxidant compound isolated from the Chinese Thunder of God vine (Tripterygium wilfordii Hook. f.). In an isolated rat liver assay of lipid peroxidation, celastrol had an IC50 value of 7 µM, equivalent to about 15 times the antioxidant potency of α-tocopherol. An antioxidant natural product which inhibits the growth of human glioma xenografts in nude mice through suppressing VEGFR expression. Used for clinical treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, was demonstrated to have antiangiogenic activity, and be inhibitory against mice tumor growth by a few recent studies. |
